Definizione e principi di base<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2><p>A <strong>cortocircuito<\/strong> \u00e8 un fenomeno di guasto comune nei circuiti elettrici in cui la corrente scorre senza passare attraverso il carico previsto (come lampadine, motori o altri apparecchi elettrici), prendendo invece un percorso a bassissima resistenza che collega direttamente i due poli della fonte di alimentazione o i conduttori a potenziali diversi. Secondo <strong>Legge di Ohm<\/strong> (I=U\/R), quando la resistenza del circuito R diminuisce bruscamente e la tensione U rimane costante, la corrente I pu\u00f2 aumentare istantaneamente a livelli pericolosi.<\/p><p>Questa situazione \u00e8 simile a quella delle acque di piena, che dovrebbero scorrere all'interno di un canale fluviale designato, e che improvvisamente sfondano l'argine e si precipitano lungo il percorso pi\u00f9 breve.
